Marilyn Jean (Foster) Wayman

Marilyn Jean Wayman, 91, of Prairie Village died on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Kansas City Hospice House.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.

Marilyn was born on September 20, 1931, to Robert C. and Sarah A. (Heyworth) Foster in Springfield, Illinois.

Marilyn retired from the Shawnee Mission School District as a school secretary and was a dedicated and gifted bridge player all her adult life.  Additionally, she was an accomplished basket weaver, and her family and friends are proud to display many of her creations in their homes.

Marilyn was an avid bird watcher and nature lover; she passed this love on to her children and grandchildren.  Marilyn was the “go to” person for any questions about nature for her entire extended family.

Marilyn served as a docent at the Kansas City Zoo for 40 years, educating thousands of visitors about the animals that were so important to her. She also served as an usher for performances at Yardley Hall on the JCCC campus.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 27 years Robert P. Wayman , sister Barbara Foster Posz, brother Edward James Foster and great grandson Avery Scott Wayman.

She is survived by her children; Robert P. Wayman, Jr, Karen Wayman Myers (Jack), and Jeffry F. Wayman (Kelly), 5 grandchildren; Robert “Todd” Wayman, Janna Wayman, Greg Myers, Matthew Wayman, Andrew Wayman, 6 great grandchildren, and brother Robert C. Foster.
