Sue Zevitz, 80, Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. True to her nature, she fought a courageous battle against cancer until the very end. Sue was born on May 2, 1941, in Chickasha, OK. She was a long-time resident of Overland Park, KS. She recently retired from the Blue Valley School District, having dedicated the last 20 years to working with special needs young adults to help them advance and integrate into society. There is no doubt that this passion carried her well past traditional retirement. She developed lifelong friendships with her students and her colleagues along the way. Sue was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’Nai Jehudah, participated in Sisterhood and volunteered for many charitable causes. As a result of her generous spirit and caring personality, she was loved by many and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
Without a shadow of a doubt, it was her grandchildren, Rachel, Danielle and Jake, that gave her the most pride and joy. Her zest for life and compassion for others will live on through them. They will forever have fond memories of their “Nonie” in their hearts and minds. Sue also enjoyed gardening, thrift shopping, decorating, entertaining at the holidays and most importantly, traditional family dinners.
She is survived by her husband, Morton, of the home; children, Michael Zevitz (Lisa) of Overland Park, KS; Colonel Daniel Zevitz (Judy) of Stafford, VA, and stepson Steve Butler of Denver, CO, and his sons, Matt & Dan; grandchildren Rachel, Danielle and Jake; and her sister Jane Biehler (John) of Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maxine and Moritz Franke; her sister Anne Startz and her brothers John Franke and Mark Franke.
The family would like to recognize the medical professionals at Menorah Hospital and Brookdale Hospice whose valiant efforts were called forth during this difficult time in our country.
