Marjorie A. Malkames

August 15, 1915 — September 26, 2011

Marjorie A. Malkames, age 96, passed away Monday, September 26, 2011, at The Court of Overland Park. She died surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her four children, Jean (John) Atherton, Bob (Sharon), Marge, and Sarah (Rick) Brown as well as six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Bruce Malkames, Jr. who died in 1998.

Marjorie was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. She moved in 1949 with her husband and children after TWA reassigned Bruce. For 51 years she was a good neighbor to those who knew her on Lowell Road and was actively involved in Shawnee United Methodist Church and the Women's Society there. She was one of the original volunteers at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and was honored for 43 years of continuous service.

Marjorie loved traveling, and she visited Europe and much of the United States and Canada with her husband, family and friends. At family gatherings, she was known for her homemade pies and chocolate chip cookies. At age 90, she was knitting tiny hats to donate to local hospitals for newborn babies. Marjorie was born August 15, 1915, and lived a full and happy life until September 26, 2011.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Foundation for Shawnee Mission Medical Center Nursing Education Fund, or to SouthernCare Hospice.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A Celebration of Marjorie's life will follow at 7 p.m.
