Marjorie McCants passed away on December 24, 2022 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Baldwin, Kansas. Marjorie was born on March 30, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to Charles and Mina Pagter.
Marjorie had two children, Deborah and Dennis, with her first husband. After they divorced she met the love of her life, Robert "Bud" McCants, and the two of them married on March 11, 1966 in Topeka, Kansas.
Marjorie had a few different careers in her lifetime. She worked as a home health aide and then worked as a hospital aide in both Topeka, KS and Pittsburg, TX. The last year of her 20 year nursing career was spent working in Pittsburg, TX in the nursery with babies. After that she started working as a Wal-Mart greeter in Pittsburg, Texas where she retired 20 years later.
Marjorie loved Jesus and lived a life of faith. She often volunteered to help with church events and loved attending church functions. She and Bud were active members of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Texas where they had several friends. Marjorie loved her family, so after Bud's death in 2002, she had her sister Janice move in with her and the two of them kept each other company until 2013 when she decided to move back to Kansas to be closer to her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After moving back to Kansas, Marjorie joined the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Overland Park where she continued to be a faithful servant of the Lord. Marjorie did not know a stranger, she was friendly with everyone she met. She enjoyed playing games with family and friends, including some of her favorites such as Bingo, Wahoo, cards, and dominos. She had a competitive nature but most of all just enjoyed being with those that she loved. She loved game shows as well and could often be found surfing the channels for her favorites. She enjoyed doing cross stitch and loved making pretty things for her friends and family. She loved beautiful flowers and enjoyed growing roses in her garden back in Texas. Marjorie was a mover and shaker and loved to sing and dance to gospel songs, bluegrass and country. Marjorie loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would tell anyone who would listen how proud she was of them.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter Deborah (Jim) Salter of Overland Park, KS; two grandsons Blake Larson (Angela) of Gardner, KS and Chet Larson (Kristin) of Basehor, KS; and 3 great children Audrey, Alex, and Emma. She is also survived by her brother Carl Pagter and sister Janice Synder.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband Bud (Robert) McCants, her sister Ruth Sims and her brothers Ralph Pagter and Ed Pagter.
A memorial service is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, at Emmauel Baptist Church 10100 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66212.
