Marjorie Louise Riggin

July 20, 1920 — April 12, 2012

Marjorie Louise Riggin, 91, lifelong Kansas City resident, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, at her home.

Marjorie was born July 20, 1920, to the late Chester and Frances Jacobs in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1934. After graduation Marjorie attended Kansas State University, and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. While at K-State, she was entered in a beauty pageant and was selected "The Most Beautiful Woman on Campus" in 1939 by Don Ameche. She graduated from K-State with a Bachelor's Degree in English in 1940.

While at college she met her first husband Henry Boyle, and they married in 1942. The day after Pearl Harbor, Marjorie started work for North American Aviation as a Graphic Designer for the Engineering Department. She was responsible for drawing the illustrations for modifications of the B-25D bombers. She also worked as an Ad Designer for Halls and Harzfeld's Department stores in Kansas City.

Marjorie was motivated by the social changes and needs that surrounded her during this time in history. She was a very active member of the Junior League of Wyandotte & Johnson County, she served on the Steering Committee that initiated the Kansas City WIC Program as well as teaching hundreds of adults how to read through the Adult Literacy Program of the Manpower Development and Training Act, and helped institute and coordinate the Lead Paint Eradication Program of Wyandotte County Health Department. Henry preceded her in death in 1957.

In 1958 Marjorie married Benjamin Riggin and worked hard to create one family out of two. She grew up as an only child and loved the idea of having a large family. Benjamin preceded her in death January 19, 2006. Marjorie is also preceded by a son, Patrick Boyle and daughter Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Marchant and her first husband Bill Sneed.

Marjorie is survived by four sons, Michael Boyle and wife Charlee, Henry "Hank" Boyle, and Casey Boyle and Ben Riggin and wife Lisa; two daughters, Bridget Hanna and husband David and Tracy Riggin; six grandsons, Aaron Boyle and wife Morgan, Christopher Boyle, Michael Ryan Sneed and wife Megan, Brennan Boyle, Patrick Riggin and Silas Redding; six granddaughters, Claire McDaniel, Lindsay Dustin and husband Dennis, Brianne Hanna, Kathryn Craig and husband David, Bethany Hanna, Anna Marie Boyle and Aubra Hanna; four great grandsons, Camden Boyle, Jacob Sneed, Ethan Sneed, and Uriah Craig; three great granddaughters, Harper Boyle, Kaitlyn Boyle, and Olivia Sneed; daughter in law, Andra Boyle; and son in law Dennis Marchant.

A visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2012, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Marjorie will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
