Marjorie Nellie Hatch Vogel, 100, died Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Bickford of Mission Springs in Mission, KS. She was born September 8, 1920 in Marysville, KS. Parents were George R. Hatch and Nellie Brien Hatch. She graduated from MHS in 1938. In 2018 she was able to attend her 80th Alumni Reunion; she had held a number of offices in the Alumni Association and originated the Newsletter for the alumni in 1994; was also editor for 17 years. In 1938 she met her future husband Fred Vogel at a dinner dance. They were united in marriage October 13, 1940. During their 48 year marriage they loved playing music and dancing to Big Bands, traveling, playing golf and tennis, playing bridge; watching golf, baseball and basketball games. While living in Maryville they were involved with church, civic groups, Masons, Eastern Star, American Legion and Union Pacific Railroad Employees club. In June of 1968 they moved to Overland Park, KS where they joined even more organizations. In 1979 Marjorie became a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians and the Kansas State Association of Parliamentarians where she served in most of the offices in Leger and Theta Units. Preceded in death by: Parents; husband Fred Vogel, four younger brothers George Brien Hatch, William Edward Hatch, Larry Ross Hatch and James Marion Hatch Survived by two children: daughter Maria M. Rose (Michael) Shawnee, KS; son George Edward Vogel (Cathy) of Lawrence, KS and two grandsons, Drew William Vogel and Benjamin Allen Vogel of Lawrence, KS Many nieces and nephews and their children.
Services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203. Due to Covid-19 Protocols attendees will be limited to a total 45 people. A livestream of the service will be available by clicking here. It will also be available to watch for 30 days.
