Marlene E. Harkness

February 9, 1932 — December 21, 2018

Marlene Esther Harkness, 86, passed peacefully into heaven at the Overland Park Nursing and Rehab Center on December 21, 2018. She was born on February 9, 1932 in Hutchinson, KS to Earl & Fern Frederick. Marlene grew up and graduated from high school in Hutchinson, KS. Later on Marlene & daughter Diana moved to Kansas City, KS where she met & married Gordon Harkness. The family moved later to Overland Park KS where they had 2 sons, Gregory & Jeffrey. Marlene was an amazing and devoted mother, wife and housewife to her family whom she loved deeply. She was also a gifted artist who loved to sew clothes for her kids and herself. Marlene also loved to knit, crochet, sketch, oil paint, do crafts of all kinds, plus home interior decorating. She was a Campfire Girl leader, and also enjoyed playing card & board games. Marlene was a lifelong active member of the Overland Park Christian Church, where she & Gordon attended regularly.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Gordon Harkness; sister, Elanor McCoy; daughter Diana Riggs-Winter; sons, Gregory & Jeffrey Harkness; grandsons Shaun Riggs, Michael (Emily) Riggs, Marc Winter; and 3 great-grandchildren Victoria, Charlie & Betty.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 27, from 12-1 pm at Overland Park Christian Church, 7600 W. 75th St Overland Park KS 66204. A funeral service will immediately follow starting at 1 pm. Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Overland Park Christian Church.
