Martha Toburen passed on to be with her Lord January 17, 2019 in Lenexa, KS. Born Martha Jane Adams on March 27, 1925 in Cimarron, KS, she grew up in her beloved Bellville, but lived most of her adult life in Shawnee Mission where she was a teacher at Santa Fe Trail Elementary. Martha was a proud alumna of Kansas State University (and Alpha Xi Delta sorority) and a serious Wildcats, Chiefs and Royals fan. She served as an Elder of Overland Park Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Merriam Home Makers and the AAUW of Shawnee Mission. Through AAUW she became a founder of the Johnson County Christmas Bureau where she volunteered for many years, and for which she received the United Community Services Voluntary Service Award. Martha was grateful for her Adams ancestry and was a member of The General Society of Mayflower Descendants, The National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, The National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, and The National Society Women Descendants of the Ancient an Honorable Artillery Company (descendant of Stephen Paine, 1649). She was preceded in death by Merrill, her husband of 67 years, and SIBLINGS: Joe, Kay & Alan. She is survived by her SONS: Michael (Paulette), Mark (Carol), Murray and Marshall (Melissa), GRANDCHILDREN: Andrew (Cristy), Stephen (Kira), Matthew (Denise), Elizabeth (Phil) & Christine (Ryan), and GREAT- GRANDCHILDREN: Zachary, Henry, Bailey, Maileigh, Nathan, Tanner, Callie, Willa, Maya & Levi.
Services for Martha will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 25th at Overland Park Presbyterian Church, 7810 W 79th St, Overland Park, The Rev. Jason Carle officiating.
In lieu of flowers Martha's family asks that you make a donation to The Johnson County Christmas Bureau.
