Marvin R. Barden, 78, of Lenexa, passed away Saturday, December 26, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Marvin was born July 4, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo. Marvin graduated from Ruskin High School in 1955. He learned to be an Architect and worked for several firms in the Kansas City area for over 50 years. Marvin loved reading books, especially Hemingway, trains, building wooden model boats and ships in bottles. Marvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially duck hunting with close friends near St. Joseph and fishing when visiting the lake.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Jones Barden; three daughters, Kem Dodson and husband Terry; Carol Nitzsche and husband Don; Vicky Carter and husband Todd; two step-daughters, Dee Elder and husband Ron; Cheryl Stokes-Sims and husband Jeff; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee. A Celebration of Marvin's life will follow the visitation at 2 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor; New York, NY 10022.
