Marvin R. Landis, 75, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away at home on Monday, September 27, 2010.

Marvin was born December 15, 1934, to Orville and Doris (Rodgers) Landis at the family home on Willard Avenue. He graduated from Argentine High School in 1952. He then attended Kansas State University but his studies were interrupted by serving 3 years in the United States Marine Corps in the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War. Following the War, Marvin returned to Kansas City and began his law enforcement career with the Rock Island Railroad in 1956 and in (1980) he continued his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1993.

Marvin has been a Mason for the past 54 years and a member of the Ben Hur Lodge of which his grandfather and father helped to construct. He was a member of the Abdullah Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He also was a member of the 1st Marine Division Association and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7397, Lenexa, Kansas.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Orville Leon. Survivors include his wife Mary of the home; four daughters, Shannon Landis, Dorene Kedney, Colene Crawley and Stephanie Colgan; one son Christopher Landis; eight grandchildren Nicholas, and Nathan Madl, Ariel, and Jared Eason, Jordan Crawley, Samantha, and Cyrena Colgan, Cole Kedney; niece Pamela (Joey) Puckett; and his dog Rudy.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ben Hur Lodge 1442 S. 30th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66106.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday September 29, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the chapel with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
