Marvin Rudolph "Mark" Luetjen of Roeland Park, KS received his eternal reward on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Brookdale Rosehill Sr. Living Facility with his wife and children by his side.
Known by his friends as Mark, he was born and raised on the family farm in Cole Camp, MO on November 8, 1935 to the late Awalt and Opal Luetjen. He served our country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return from the Army he met the love of his life, Virginia Roberta Busing and the two of them were married on August 12, 1961. The two moved to Independence, MO where Mark had been working since 1959 for the United Auto Workers Union, at the General Motors Leed's Plant.
The young couple started their family while in Independence and then moved Dale and Debbie with them to Higginsville, MO to fulfill Mark's dream of raising his precious family on a farm. Not long after, a third child, Tammy was born. He and Jennie spent 24 years on the farm in Higginsville. After 31 years of service, Mark retired from General Motors and the couple moved to the Kansas City area in 1993 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
In his early years, Mark loved the joys of farming, hunting, fishing, church and spending time with family. After retirement, he and Jennie devoted their life to serving God by selflessly ministering to prisoners, veterans and the homeless. He also enjoyed spending his days painting, drawing, gardening and taking every opportunity to play with his grandchildren.
He was adored by and will be terribly missed by his wife of 54 years, Jennie; three children, Dale Luetjen; Debbie Stacy; Tammy Jones and husband Jeremy; 6 grandchildren, Josiah and Destiny Stacy; Regan, Gavin, Garrison and Adison Jones; two brothers, Wilbert Luetjen and Robert Luetjen and wife Barbara, a sister, Leana Maxon and husband Floyd, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16 at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, followed by a celebration of Mark's life at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Pleasantview Cemetery in Shawnee, Kansas.
