Mary Lou Brookshier

December 23, 1926 — December 9, 2021

Mary Lou Brookshier, 94, of Merriam, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Kansas City Hospice House.

Mary was born on December 23, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert D. and Margaret C. (Cruzen) Hammond.

She was a 65-year member of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of Trailblazers. She also volunteered many years at Overland Park Regional Medical Center and was a regular poll worker. She enjoyed many activities including Dixie Diamonds Square Dance Club, bowling leagues, and Plus-Square Dance Group. She was an accomplished seamstress creating clothing and costumes plus doing all sorts of tailoring. She showed her love of family by hosting family gatherings until the age of 82. She helped with grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they enjoyed her reading to them. She opened her home to her niece, her
mother and mother-in-law, but her main focus was always dad. They celebrated 74 years together.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Brookshier.

Survivors include daughters: Susan Rhea and husband Jim; Sheryl Oshel and husband Rusty; and Diana Voss and husband Doug; niece Cathy Metz and husband Tom: Grandchildren Gretchen Chudy and husband Mike, Texas; Heather Enoch and husband Philip, Kenya; Annie Taylor and husband Matt, Overland Park; Reed Oshel and wife Abbey, Liberty; John Oshel and wife Julie, Overland Park; Rachel Dart and husband Colin, Olathe; and Kaylin Disney and husband Louie, Colorado; great-nephew Clinton, great-nieces Cheryl Metz, Columbia; Lisa Cook and husband Walter, Mission; and 16 great-grandchildren.
