Mary (Jordan) Carnie, Lenexa, KS passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2014. Mary was born in Fort Leavenworth, KS. She grew up on a farm N.E. of Glasco, KS with her brother, Louis and parents, Hazel and D.T. Jordan. She attended Eureka Grade School and Glasco High School, graduating with the class of 1939. From there she entered nursing school at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, KS. After graduation she married Robert Carnie, a representative for Paramount Pictures. In 1944 Mary enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp and served 21 months in the states, advancing to the rank of 1st Lt. during World War II. She was the third woman in her family to serve during war times. Her mother was a nurse during WWI and great grandmother, Addie served as a nurse in the Civil War. All three are honored in the Women’s Memorial in Washington D.C. Mary devoted 50 years nursing in various fields and retired in 1988 from Mutual Benefit Life Insurance, after 11 ½ years as their company nurse. Her retirement years were devoted to volunteer work (Habitat for Humanity) and traveling. Mary was a member of Cherokee Christian Church.
Two nephews survive her, Larry Jordan & wife, Christine of Topeka, KS and their children, Jennifer, David and Brian, and nephew, Randy & wife, Margaret of Ireland. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, brother Louis and nephew Richard.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, KS. Visitation will be 4-6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Amos Family Funeral Home.
