Mary Jane Finnerty

August 18, 1921 — April 1, 2015

Mary Jane (Scanlon) Finnerty passed peacefully in the early morning hours on April 1, 2015, after a long and fulfilling life.

She was born August 18, 1921 in Buffalo, NY to William and Helen Scanlon. Her younger years were spent in the Philadelphia area. Then the family moved to Louisville, KY, where she graduated 2nd in her high school class in 1939.

Jane met her future husband, Mike, on a blind date in 1943, before he shipped overseas during WWII. After he returned, they were married in 1946. They moved to the Kansas City area in 1948, to join family there and start a new chapter together.

Over the years, they kept busy raising seven children in Prairie Village, Roeland Park, and Lee's Summit. When retirement came, they enjoyed family visits, lots of dancing at senior events, and traveling on cruise ships to destination spots. When they finally slowed down, life was spent at a retirement community, where they made new friends.

Jane was a devoted wife, loving mother, special grandmother, and kind soul to all. She enjoyed life immensely, but was ready to move on. The family is so grateful that her final days were spent resting at home. We will miss her.

Jane was preceded in death by her brother, William (Bud) Scanlon and daughter, Diane.

Jane is survived by her husband of 69 years, Mike; sons, Mike III (Linda), Bill, and Jeff (Michelle); daughters, Kathy Brotherson (Wade), Maureen Patton, and Susie Holloway (Kerwin); thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three nephews, Steve Scanlon, Mark Scanlon, and Dan Scanlon: one niece, Mary Cummings, and their families.
