Mary Alice Geise

Mary Alice (Edward) Geise, 83, passed away at home Friday, May 20, 2016.

Mrs. Geise was born in El Dorado, KS Dec. 6, 1932. She grew up in Wichita, KS attending East High School, graduating in 1950. Then going to Ottawa University, Ottawa, KS; graduating in 1954 with a Secondary and Elementary teaching degree.

She married Dudley A. Geise on her graduation day, May 30, 1953. They celebrated 54 years of marriage during which time they raised four children. Enjoyed sports, traveling and many friends in Overland Park and at their lake home in the Ozarks.

Mary Alice begin her teaching career in Kingman, KS 1954-56. Then taught in Hays, KS in 1957. She spent ten years raising the family at home; then resumed teaching in 1967 in Shawnee Mission, KS Cherokee Elementary School. She enjoyed the trust and faith of the children at this level. Retired in 1994 with 31 years of teaching.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Geise in Nov. 2007, her father, Mendal Edwards of Boulder, CO, mother, Dorothy (Chadwell) Oliver of Anchorage, AK and step-mother, Edith Edwards of Muskogee, OK.

Mrs. Geise volunteered in many areas of the church. Prairie Baptist Church, twenty-five years and Overland Park Christian the last twenty-five years. Also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Serving on the board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Kansas City for eight years. She was a member of P.E.O. of Bonner Springs and volunteered eight years at Shawnee Mission Hospital.

Mary Alice was honored by Ottawa University in 2013 for the Esther Ruth Alumni Award for her work at the university, church and community.

Survivors include three sons, Rick and Kristi Geise, Dillon, CO, Randy Geise, Laurie, MO and Terry and Lori with for grandsons, Andrew, Aaron, Adam, Austin, and granddaughter, Ann Marie, Shawnee, KS; daughter, Tamara Selk and grandson, Christian Selk and granddaughter, Sydney Selk, Desoto, KS.

Mary Alice loved life and was blessed by Gods direction during her wonderful lifetime.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31 at the Overland Park Christian Church; burial in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS.
