Mary Madylene Hurd

January 6, 1922 — October 23, 2016

Mary M. Hurd, 94, of Lenexa, KS passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Lakeview Village Care Center.

Mary was born January 6, 1922 to the late Willard and Marion Winter in Raymond, Ohio. On March 21, 1941, Mary married Richard W. Hurd in Lexington, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2008. Mary attended The Ohio State University where she majored in art. Later in life, she went back to school to study pottery, and enjoyed this avocation for 40 years. Her hobbies included pottery, basket weaving, antique collecting, golf, fishing, camping, canoeing and gardening. Mary was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Mary served as a Girl Scout Leader for 25 years, teaching many girls to love the outdoors. She was a volunteer docent at Missouri Town 1855 for 35 years. Mary served as an election judge, as well as being active in her children's PTA.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Hurd and wife Mary Jane; four daughters, Mary Anne Cook and husband Jay; Susan Sappenfield and husband Danny; Maya Winterherd "Nancy" and husband Bill; Sally Wheeler and husband Lee; nine grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Amy, Peter, Erin, Kelly, Tatyana, Eric, Madylene; and 17 great grandchildren. Mary loved life and was dedicated to her family.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 10 am to 11 am Wednesday, October 26, 2o16 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 6422 Santa Fe Drive, Mission, KS 66202. Funeral services will follow at 11 am with burial in Antioch Pioneer.
