Mary Ruth (Dietrich) Mihelcic, 83, Mission, Kansas, passed away at her home on Saturday, August 1, 2009.
Mary was born January 12, 1926, the daughter of Lon and Mary Dietrich, Ottawa, Kansas. After graduating from Ottawa High School, Mary graduated from Ottawa University with a BS, majoring in Chemistry. She worked as a chemist for Borden Dairy for several years before accepting a position as an assistant to Dr. Reisman at the University of Kansas Medical Center until she was married.
She was married to Edward Mihelcic on May 26, 1962, at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church. They enjoyed many years together traveling, spending time with their nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, until Ed passed away on November 27, 1985. After that, Mary spent much of her time at her parish church involved in charitable works of many kinds, such as funeral dinners, helping with dinners for the needy, attending daily Mass, and much more. She will be greatly missed by parishioners.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Mary Dietrich, by her brother Paul Dietrich, and by her husband Ed Mihelcic. Mary is survived by her two sisters-in- law Rose Mihelcic, her nieces and nephews Charles Stimetz (Sandy), Barbara Huerter (Eugene), Joseph Mihelcic (Elise), and many great and great great ones; and by Elizabeth Dietrich and her children: David Dietrich, Cool, California; Donald Dietrich (Jan) Ballwin, Missouri; Julie Arnold (Paul), Independence, Missouri; Paula Swafford (Allen) Independence, Missouri; and their families all of whom loved their “Great Aunt Ruth” very much; and by many cousins in Moline, and Wichita, Kansas, and Austin, Texas; and by long-time college friends.
Memorial donations may be made to the church.
Visitation and Funeral Mass
Visitation will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mission, Kansas, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
