Mary (Candy) Schock, of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully on July 16th surrounded by family.
Candy was born to Elizabeth and Robert McLoughlin January 24th, 1947. She graduated from Bishop Miege High School and went on to earn her RN at Research School of Nursing. Her career was spent helping others as an operating room nurse at Research Medical Center and later as an emergency nurse at St. Joseph Medical Center. While nursing was a true calling of hers, writing was her true passion. Her poetry and short stories have been published in numerous journals and magazines.
Candy married Robert Douglas Schock in 1969 and they resided in Overland Park while raising their children. Candy was preceded in death by her loving husband who passed in 1986. Candy was an amazing, dedicated mother who devoted everything she had to her daughters after the far too early loss of her husband and their father.
Candy is survived by her two children Christine Oliver and Karen Burkhart, their husbands Robert Oliver and Lance Burkhart, and her grandchildren Brendan Oliver, Haley Burkhart and Isaac Burkhart. She is also survived by her brothers Robert McLoughlin and Michael McLoughlin, their wives Katie and Michele, and many many loving nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
All who knew Candy remember that she was quick to laughter, generous to a fault, and played a mean game of cards. Candy really enjoyed a good tv show and nap, bad jokes and puns, tending to her flower garden, going out to dinner or a movie with her friends, and spending time with her family. Candy had a true interest in the sciences and arts and could often be found reading books or attending online classes on topics like string theory, nanotechnology, and art preservation.
Candy’s remaining days were spent with numerous visits from her many friends and family that loved her dearly, getting to eat the foods that she wanted, and resting comfortably at home.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 20th from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee KS 66203. Food will be served.
In lieu of flowers, it is asked that you make a donation in Candy’s name to The Wounded Warrior Project .
