Mary Maude Shaffer, 88, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday evening, May 3, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at The Gables of Overland Park.
Mary was born January 4, 1923, to the late Everett and Letha Mae Craig in Peculiar, Missouri. Mary graduated from Peculiar High School. She was a bank teller for over forty years with several area banks including Mission State Bank and Country Hill Bank.
Mary was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and had a deep faith and studied the Bible on a daily basis. She was a resident at the Santa Fe Towers for 19 years and was active in community activities and served as the President and Secretery of the Resident Board at the Towers. She was always reaching out to her neighbors and enjoyed learning new languages and cultures. Mary had a smile for everyone she met. She was very active at the Gables and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her sister Hazel Weller. She is survived by her daughter Brenda Jewett and husband Duane; a son Terrance Hardaway; two grandsons, Daniel Jewett and Jeff Jewett and wife Marie; a granddaughter, Terrie Marie Carson and husband Phillip; seven great grandchildren Josh Jewett, Chris Jewett and wife Miranda, Brandon Jewett, Hunter Jewett, Tanner Jewett, Hannah Jewett, Phillip John Carson; great great grandson Kai Alan Jewett; and two nieces, Nancy Sledd and husband Pat, and Iva Lee Colgan.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 10000 W. 75th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66204.
Memorial Service
Memorial service will be 10 a.m., Saturday May 7, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
