Mary Blair Leighton Snyder, 79, passed away on November 30, 2018 in Overland Park Kansas.
Mary was born on April 22, 1939 to Dwight Hannaford Leighton and Elsie Hilyard Leighton in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, which was the closest hospital to her home in Maine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Wallace Leighton, and her husband, Richard A. Snyder.
Mary is survived by 4 children, Rod (Rachael) Snyder, Deidra Gevargizian, Laura Lewis and John (Diane) Snyder, as well as 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Mary lived most of her life in Kansas City, Kansas, where she attended Rosedale High School. She met her husband, Richard, on a blind date at the University of Kansas and they were happily married for 41 years. Mary worked at Venture stores for many years. She later handled payroll for the KCK public schools. Later in life, she was a grocery store checker and brought smiles to many customers with her unique personality and great sense of humor and fashion.
Mary loved coffee, ice cream, crossword puzzles, cats and getting together with family and friends. She loved to dance around the house listening to music and was a wonderful storyteller.
Mary made a real impact on everyone she met and she lived life to the fullest. She carried her positive and infectious attitude with her until she passed. She will be missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Amos Family Funeral Home located at 10901 Johnson Drive in Shawnee, Kansas.
