Mary Ellen Stephenson crossed over to eternal life peacefully with family by her side on February 19, 2021 at the age of 95. What a warm and loving woman she was!
Mary Ellen was born to Clyde and Vera Ferguson in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Argentine High School. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Jerry Stephenson, on November 27, 1947 after he returned from service in World War II.
After raising two daughters, Mary Ellen went to work alongside her husband in the family insurance business as the bookkeeper. She retired at age 65. Over the years Mary Ellen had many close friends, including a group of twelve women from high school who would get together often.
Mary Ellen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 65 years. She served the church often and enjoyed many years of friendship with Hannah Circle.
Thanks to the genealogical research of her husband, Mary Ellen was honored to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), enjoying many service projects and fellowship.
She loved reading, her flower gardens and being with friends. Most of all, Mary Ellen was devoted to her family and took pleasure in their happiness.
The past eleven years Jerry and Mary Ellen lived at Santa Marta Retirement Community. She enjoyed all the new friendships she made and the fun activities and parties.
Even though her health had not been good for some time, she always met the day with a smile and a joyful attitude.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband of 73 years, Jerry, daughters Gail (and John) Meyer, Janet (and Matt) George, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
