Mary Lee Wisner, 98, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away on December 16, 2023. She was born on January 29, 1925, in Mission, Kansas, to the late Ernest C. Kimpel and Anna Mae (Tesar) Kimpel. She will be deeply missed by her loving children: Kim Wisner (Janet) of Lenexa, KS, Janice McAnaw of Shawnee, KS, Diana Wisner of Merriam, KS, and Dale Wisner (Lori) of Raymore, MO. Mary also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Leroy Wisner, her brother John C Kimpel (Theadosha “Ted”), and her grandson, Matthew P. McAnaw.
Mary was a proud housewife and mother, known for her generosity and volunteer work. She dedicated her time to various organizations, including the Merriam Grade School PTA, Hocker Grove Junior High PTA, Shawnee Mission North High School PTA, Shawnee Mission Northwest High School PTA (often being on 2 or 3 PTA boards in a school year), Merriam Homemakers, Johnson County Christmas Bureau, an election poll worker, League of Women Voters, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam Christian Church, and the MCC Challenger Class. Mary had a passion for gardening and enjoyed spending time outdoors in the sun. She was also an avid bowler, even into her early 90’s.
Mary received her education at Roesland School and Shawnee Mission Rural High School. She furthered her education at Graceland College.
Mary worked at Reinhardt Flowers on Mission Road in Fairway, Kansas whenever needed, but always for the holidays.
Mary was a longtime member of Merriam Christian Church, where she worshipped and served many positions. The Challenger Class became the source of many life-long friendships.
In her free time, Mary loved to sit outside, enjoying the sun and watching the birds, and admiring flowers, plants, bushes and trees in their large yard.
A visitation will be held on December 20, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30am, with a funeral service at 11:30am, all at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas. For those unable to attend, Mary's service will be livestreamed and is available by clicking here . She will be laid to rest at Johnson County Memorial Gardens at 1:00pm following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mary’s memory to Merriam Christian Church, or to the Johnson County Christmas Bureau.
