Max E. Meyer

August 29, 1919 — December 9, 2008

Max E. Meyer, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away December 9, 2008 at the University of Kansas Hospital. He lost a courageous battle with complications stemming from a December 3rd stroke.

Born August 29, 1919, Max or "Grandpy," as he was nicknamed by his grandchildren, served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army during WWII. After he was honorably discharged, Max moved on to a successful 37-year career as a funeral director and embalmer in Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Not one to retire, he continued to work for his son at Kraft Tool Company in Shawnee, Kansas for another 20 years before officially retiring. While Max took great pride in helping those in their time of grief, in the end it was the opportunity to work with his son that became his greatest career achievement. Max was a loving husband who enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. His other hobbies included traveling and coin collecting.

Max is survived by his wife and constant companion of 61 years, Roberta Meyer (Willm) of Overland Park, Kansas. Also surviving are sisters Charlene Balwanz and Marguerite McClanahan of St. Joseph, Missouri, son Ronald Meyer and daughter-in-law Marilyn Meyer (Bowers) of Leawood, Kansas and grandchildren Marisa Meyer of Westwood, Kansas and Ryan Meyer of Leawood, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions made to the American Heart Association.
