Roeland Park

Melva Jean Schmitt, 89, of Roeland Park, Kansas, passed away in her home on June 29, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born in Spearville, Kansas on July 21, 1934, to George W. and Jennie (Robbins) Wyatt.

After graduating from Kinsley High School in1952, Melva remained in Kinsley, married LaVern P. Schmitt (deceased) and enjoyed being part of a farming community north of Kinsley. She was active in the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and generously volunteered her time to various organizations. Melva was unpretentious, kind and well-liked by others. Idleness was never in her vocabulary. Besides volunteering, she enjoyed puzzles, baking homemade breads and icebox pies and crafts. Her greatest joy was sharing her homemade goodies with others.
