Michael Dean Morris, age 77, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024, at his home in Shawnee, Kansas surrounded by his children. Throughout his cancer diagnosis, Mike showed his courage in facing life challenges with strength and dignity.
He was born on April 8,1947, in Harrisonville, Missouri to the late Clarence and Reva Morris. He was one of 9 children. After graduating from Desoto High School in 1965, he voluntarily enlisted in the Marines. He was an infantryman with the 3rd Battalion 26th Marines India Company. During the Vietnam war he was a rifleman and became a squad leader. He was battlefield promoted to Sargent by a Colonel. During the war he received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with a Combat V.
He is survived by Karla and their 3 children Michelle, Tracie, and Jeff and his wife Suzie, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his four brothers: Bud, Dennis, Terry, and Chuck.
The past 30 years he worked as a Superintendent for EXCEL Constructors. Mike was a beloved coach of both girls and boys basketball, as well as girls softball for over a decade. Mike’s passion was golfing. If he wasn't working, he was golfing with the guys at Heritage Golf Course.
A service to celebrate Michael's life will be held on July 7, 2024, at 5:00pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home. During this time, family and friends will come together to honor his memory and share stories of the impact he made on their live.
