Michael B. Edwards

June 2, 1962 — July 20, 2020

Michael Brian Edwards, 58, Shawnee, KS passed away surrounded by his immediate family on July 20, 2020.

Mike was born June 2, 1962 in Joplin, MO to John and Evelyn Louise Edwards. He was a graduate of Iola High School, received his Pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas and his PharmD degree from the UMKC.

Mike started his career as a pharmacist at KU Medical Center and went on to pursue a successful career in clinical research for 30 years. During those years, he helped bring several new life changing medications to market.  Mike most recently went back to his true passion and started a business of helping people with their medication management.

Mike loved coaching teams in and out of work and was a true inspirational leader. He always said, " chasing and coaching his daughters were some of the best memories of his life." He also loved his silly Jeep and off roading. Mike was a king master backyard griller/smoker. He encouraged everybody to be their best and was a  true friend. He absolutely adored his granddaughter, Lydia, who called him Mike and he loved it.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cari Edwards; three daughters, Alex (Cory) Thompson, Kansas City, KS, Makenzie (John) Neill, Manhattan, KS and Abbey (Austin) Willard, Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Susan (Terry) Hernstrom, Frisco, TX and Mary Edwards, Liberty, MO; two brothers, Richard (Becky) Edwards, Smithville, MO and Paul (Patty) Edwards, Rogers, AR; mother-in-law, Susan Chesney, Medina, OH; sister-in-law, Cindy (Brian) Carver, Medina, OH;  two grandchildren, Lydia Gale Thompson and Logan Alexander Thompson and soon to arrive, Lucas Michael Thompson. Mike also leaves his eight nieces; six nephews and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be 3-4:00 p.m. followed by a service at 4:00 p.m. Monday, July 27 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Current COVID-19 Social Distancing guidelines will be followed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the research of mental health of your choice.
