Michael Marcellus, 77, of Shawnee, KS passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Brookdale of Shawnee.
Michael was born February 20, 1941 to the late Etna (Marc) and Lorraine Marcellus in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Emporia Senior High School in 1959. Michael enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Tolovana in the western Pacific, where he survived a typhoon while at sea. After leaving the Navy in 1961, Michael returned to Emporia to complete his education, he graduated from Emporia State University with bachelor's degree in business. Michael began a career as a ware-house manager that took his family to Topeka and various places in the Kansas City area. On September 10, 1977, he married Carol Galligher. Michael enjoyed being with his family and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks boating and skiing, where he served on the Board of Grandview Beach Property Owners Association in Warsaw, MO.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Carol; a son Bradley Marcellus and wife Michelle of Tonganoxie, KS; daughter, Melanie Yearta of Kansas City, MO; daughter in law, Linda Marcellus of Kansas City, KS; a granddaughter; two great grandchildren; sister, Marilee Grove and husband, Bryan of Lawrence, KS. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Marcellus.
Visitation will be Monday, October 1, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Amos Family Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Leavenworth County Humane Society, 1205 Rear North Main Street, Lansing, KS 66043.
