December 12, 1939 — December 25, 2019

Michael D. Murray, 80, of Olathe, passed away on December 25, 2019 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Mike was born in Hoopeston, IL to Arthur and Leona Murray on December 12, 1939.  He married Susan Laughhunn on September 3, 1967 in Mattoon, IL and recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.  He was a graduate of Hoopeston High School and went on to pursue his college education at the University of Illinois, Illinois Wesleyan and Eastern Illinois.  He worked as a Region Sales Manager for the ESCO corporation and Sales Director for Langer Equipment Company for the majority of his life.  He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Shawnee, KS.  He was an avid college sports fan and was a mainstay at his sons & grandsons various sporting events.  Other favorite things include music, Da' Bears, hunting, fishing and travelling to see extended family.  His life was one of hard work, joy, fun and family.  Everyone who met him was greeted with a huge smile and more than likely a long story, always expressing how proud he was of his family and where he came from.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents and sister Sue Johnson; brother in law Dick Ping; brother in law Rodney Johnson.  Left to cherish his memory are his wife Susan; sons Mike (Tori) Murray of Lenexa, KS; Chris (Leslie) Murray of Winter Springs, FL; four grandchildren; Ty, Miller, Campbell and Cameron.  He is also survived by his brother Arthur (Jocelyn) Murray; brother in law Bob (Donna) Laughhunn; sister in law Linda (Bill) Wise and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5:30 - 7:30 pm, January 3, 2020 at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS.

In lieu of Flowers donations in his name can be made American Cancer Society or Hope Lutheran Church - Shawnee, KS.  The family of Mike wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the ICU staff at Shawnee Mission Medical Center/Advent Health for their loving care.
