Michael A. Pray, 75, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on December 28, 2015. He was born on November 30, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Arthur and Vivian (Reid) Pray.

Mike attended the University of Nebraska Omaha before entering the United States Army. He had a passion for the gift industry, starting his career in Omaha, Nebraska at Brandeis Department Store in the mid- 1960s. In 1970, he founded Pray Associates that the entire family worked and operated until it was sold in 2010 to BPA Sales out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. To this day, the business still operates under the same name, Pray Associates.

Mike had a passion for the outdoors, especially playing golf and fishing. From 2008 to 2014, Mike and Dorie Sheppard retired to the Lake Chapala area of Mexico. During his time in Mexico, Mike organized a group of American/Canadian friends to help support under privileged villagers by providing food and treats for the children.

He is preceded in death by his twin sister, Pat Scott, and brother, Bill Pray. Mike is survived by sons, Brian Pray, Tyler (Paula) Pray, life partner, Dorie Sheppard, brother, Terry Pray, granddaughter, Nicole Hodges, and brother in law, Dick Scott.

Services

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, from 4-5 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow, starting at 5pm.
