Michael F. Quinlan

January 3, 1937 — April 19, 2023

Michael F. Quinlan, 86, of Parkville, Missouri passed on Wednesday April 19, 2023. Michael made the decision to enter hospice care following two recent hospital stays and spent his final days at home with his family.

Michael was born in Kansas City, Kansas on January 3, 1937. The youngest of four children, Michael graduated from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas and went on to attend the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering in 1962.

Michael went to work for Bob D. Campbell & Co. in Kansas City, Missouri and had a career as a licensed professional structural engineer for over 40 years. Michael worked on many buildings in Kansas City and surrounding area including the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, Vista Hotel, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and many buildings on the KU campus in Lawrence.

When not working, Michael enjoyed the outdoors and spent time hunting, fishing and boating. He took up fishing as a young man and fly fishing became his passion and joy. Michael was always up for an adventure and went fishing with his children and grandchildren at many destinations including Michigan, Montana, Alaska, Ireland and Chili but when asked where his favorite fishing place was, he said right here in Missouri at Bennett Springs and Taneycomo.

Michael married Sherry Quinlan in 1962 and was blessed with four children. Michael was a family man and loved spending time with his children and in later years his six grandchildren. He was an avid Jayhawk fan, enjoyed reading, learning about his Irish heritage, sushi, playing chess, betting on horse races, growing tomatoes and feeding birds. He loved to tell jokes and stories and make others laugh.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents Francis ‘Frank’ Quinlan and Ellen ‘Nellie’ Quinlan; sisters Teresa Burt, Noreen Denney and Jeannie Turner; brothers-in-laws Gene Burt and George Denney; son Michael F. Quinlan Jr. and son-in-law Wayne Culver.
