Michael Duane Vanhercke

January 1, 1965 — October 2, 2015

Michael D. VanHercke, 50, of Shawnee, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at his home. Michael was born January 1, 1965 in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1984. After high school Mike joined the U.S. Army before attending JCCC and earning a bachelor's of science degree from Rockhurst University.

Mike was a Boy Scout and attained the rank of Eagle. For his Eagle service project, Mike helped bring organized bus service to northern Johnson County to help low income residents. Mike was good friend, brother and son. He took everyone at face value and truly believed in people and always stuck up for the underdog.

Mike is survived by his mother, Doris VanHercke; sisters, Jean Marie VanHercke, Lisa D. VanHercke; a nephew, Joshua William VanHercke. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Anna Marie VanHercke.

Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 12th, at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS. Burial with military honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.
