Mildred I. Rieke

Mildred I. (Reedy) Rieke was born August 15, 1917, in Humboldt, KS, to Thomas & Katherine Walters Reedy.  She died May 30, 2018 at Kansas City Hospice House.  Mildred graduated from Yates Center High School in 1936, then St. Margaret Hospital School of Nursing in 1940.  She stayed at St. Margaret as a surgical nurse until 1943, when she married Frank Rieke, MD, a lieutenant in the Army.  They made their home in Kansas City, KS, until their move to Shawnee, KS  in 1948, where they remained until death.

Mildred is survived by children Sharon Rieke, Michael Rieke (Victoria), Jane Lang (Bob), and Anne Rieke; grandchildren Rebecca Lang (Matt Sweeney), Noah Rieke (Alexandra Storm), and Katie Lang Smock (Travis); great grandchildren Josie, William, and Hudson; and her sister Virginia Schrader.  She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, her parents, six sisters, and two brothers.

She held offices in Wyandotte County Medical Society Auxiliary, St. Margaret Hospital Guild, and St. Joseph Altar Society and Grade & High School Mothers Clubs.

She volunteered with St. Joseph Catholic Church in many ways, including Food Kitchen, Grade & High Schools, Bereavement Committee, Respite Care, RCIA and Resurrection Choir as well as  Providence-St. Margaret Hospital Guild.

Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m, June 3, 2018, Rosary at 5:30 at The Amos Family Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass 10 a.m. June 4, 2018 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or American Breast Cancer Foundation.
