Mildred Irene Young

Mildred Irene Young, 95, of Lenexa, passed away December 15, 2016 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa.

Mildred was born June 15, 1921 in Louisburg, KS, to Stephen Young and Belle Barker Young. She graduated from Louisburg High School in 1939. She married Marion F. Kessler in 1949 and they were co-owners of Kansas City Artificial Limb Co. The marriage ended in divorce.

In 1987 Mildred retired from Continental Plastic Containers, Lenexa, KS. She returned to work in 1992 for Russell Sifers Candy Company where she retired in 2009 at the age 88. Mildred was a fifty-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and was past Worthy Matron of Beatrice Chapter, Shawnee. She was a member of Countryside Christian Church.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Amy Wright and Marilyn Poese, step-son M. Wayne Kessler, step grandson David Kessler and niece Susan Poese.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Kessler White, Merriam, son, Charles S. Kessler and fiancé Josie Lake Fredericks, Maryville, MO; Russell R. White, Merriam. KS; and grandson Charles S. Kessler, II, and his fiancé, Jessie Smith of Raymore, MO. Step-son, Robert (Karen) Kessler, Lenexa, KS; seven step grandchildren, and numerous step great grandchildren. Two nephews, Stephen (Ann) Wright and Robert (Madeleine) Wright. She was an Honorary Grandmother of Courtney Summerson Schulte and Kristin Summerson Brackow.

The entire family would like to thank her Hospice nurse Dani, and the entire team at Kansas City Hospice.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. A celebration of Mildred's life will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
