Miles Aaron Sheffler, 82, Olathe Kansas, passed away on September 2, 2013.

He was the son of Lawrence Bernard and Beulah Elma Sheffler of Newton, Kansas. Miles proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return to the USA he met his future wife of 57 years while attending Emporia State University. He graduated with a B.S. and later obtained his Master's degree from Colorado State.

His family was important to him and he put his wife and daughters first. Miles was a high school English teacher for forty years, both in Coffeyville, Kansas, and the Shawnee Mission School District. Miles was a recipient of the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars Certificate of Excellence while teaching at Shawnee Mission West.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughters and husbands, Julie and Tom Nitcher of Lenexa, Kansas, and Melinda and Jim Emig of San Diego, California; four grandchildren Melanie Nitcher of Waldo, Missouri, Meredith Nitcher of Springfield, Missouri, Greg Nitcher of Manhattan, Kansas, and Cody Emig of San Diego, California; one sister, Maxine Hall of Cheney, Kansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Family, gardening, flowers and education were his passions.

Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2013, at Lenexa United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the church. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
