Monte Wayne Wedel

Monte Wayne Wedel, 62 of Lenexa, KS went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday May 17, 2022, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born November 9, 1959, in Kingman, KS to Harland and Donna (Schrag) Wedel. Monte was a member of Overland Park Community Church. He graduated from Buhler High School in 1978, then on to Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 1982.

Monte was an accomplished strategic leader with over 35 years’ experience in sales and marketing organizations where he performed various technical systems engineering and sales roles. Highly skilled in senior strategic technology and account executive sales, Monte earned numerous awards and accolades during his career.

Monte enjoyed hunting, fishing, a good cigar, and glass of wine. He had a fun-loving side and enjoyed a good prank. His contagious smile, quick wit, and humorous stories will be missed by all who knew him. He spent summers growing up helping with the family’s custom harvesting business. Watching the Chiefs and KSU Wildcats was a favorite pastime. Monte’s strong Christian faith was his source of strength. He truly was a man of integrity exhibiting redeeming qualities of patience, mercy, and grace.

He was preceded in death by his father Harland Wedel, and mother of his children Shelly Wedel. He is survived by his wife Karen McKown-Wedel, his mother Donna Wedel, son Preston Wedel, daughter Makenzie Wedel, sister Diane (Kent) Siemens and grandson Sannto DeMint. Stepchildren Matthew (Rachel) McKown, Austin (Tamara) McKown, Step-grandchildren Liam, Vivian, and Lucas McKown.

Visitation will be Sunday May 22, 2022, from 3:00-6:00pm at Amos Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS 66203. A celebration of Monte’s life will be held at Overland Park Community Church 14800 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66223 on Monday May 23, 2022, at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in memory of Monte can be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches, shares God’s love and compassion for all in the name of Christ by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice. MCC envisions communities worldwide in the right relationship with God, one another and creation.
