Myrel Lee Mayfield

September 2, 1938 — October 25, 2018

Myrel Lee Mayfield, 80 of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away at his home.

A life-long Kansas City area resident, Myrel proudly served in the US Navy as a "tin can sailor." He ultimately retired from the phone company after spending most of his career as a system installer with AT&T.

Myrel will be remembered for his generous, humorous nature and the hop in his step when upgrading his house, springing for breakfast, or keeping his hearing aid out of his black lab's diet. Without much prompting, Myrel could recite any scene from any Mel Brooks movie, until being interrupted by his own laughter. And it's likely that NCiS just lost its biggest fan.

Myrel will also be missed for his "Myrelisms." For example, he had many skilled friends and resources, and if anyone ever needed any kind of help, Myrel would assuredly say, "I gotta guy."  Sadly, we lost a guy-a really, really great one.

Laid to rest on November 1, Myrel is survived by his wife Cheryl Mayfield of Shawnee, KS, son Andy Mayfield of Lenexa , brother Frank Mayfield of Overland Park and by his cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends-many of whom happily surprised him at his 80thbirthday party just eight weeks ago.
