Nancy Shipman Brown

Nancy (Page) Shipman Brown, 85 of Olathe, passed away on December 14, 2014. She was born in Kansas City, MO in 1929, the youngest of four children and only daughter of Oren W. and Edith Gail Page. In the 30's, the family moved to a farm in rural Olathe. She graduated from Olathe High School in 1946 and from the University of Kansas in 1950 with a BA in Fine Arts - Fashion Illustration. She worked as an advertising artist, sketching ads for Emery Bird Thayer, and also drew maps for the U.S. Army.

She married William Russell Shipman in 1953. For the next 20 years, Nancy's most important job was being a stay at home wife and mom to four children. She continued to enjoy her art during those years, taking lessons, painting and participating in art shows. In 1970, she returned to KU to earn a degree in education. After Bill's death in 1974, Nancy briefly taught middle school, then entered the real estate profession where she continued to work for over 30 years. She married Hank Brown in 1978, and together they owned and operated Showcase of Homes real estate company in Olathe. Hank died in 2006.

Nancy will be remembered for her positive attitude, indelible spirit and love for her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oren W. and Edith Gail Page; two husbands, William (Bill) Shipman and Henry (Hank) Brown; three brothers; William (Bill) Page, Donald Page, and Charles Page.

She is survived by four children, Nancy Whitt (Forrest), Dennis Shipman (Lisa), Connie Gallentine (Rex), and Carol Burnett (Steve). Also, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Stanley, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ronald McDonald House, 2502 Cherry Street, K.C. MO 64108
