Nancy Lee Petersen

Nancy Fredlund Petersen, born June 6, 1931, in Denver, CO, went home to the Lord on June 30, 2024, surrounded by loved ones as she rejoined her beloved husband James Edward “Pete” Petersen. 

She leaves here her daughter, Pamela Kay Petersen Lucas; her son, James William “Bill” Petersen; her grandchildren Laura, Peter (and wife Nicole), David (and wife Heather), and Bethany (and husband Tim); her great-grandchildren Olivia, Elaina, Mia, and Molly; her dear friend Russ McCorkle and countless others; and hundreds who called her Mom and Arnie and whom she loved dearly. 

Nancy was giving, strong and stubborn in her goodwill, and wise, living with ceaseless devotion to others. She saw life from the details up, and her dry commentary on life kept us laughing. She remained deeply in love with her husband, Pete. Arnie and Poppie, as she and Pete were named by their grandchildren, were married in September 1948 and spent 58 years pouring steadfast love into countless lives together. They traveled the world, from China to Morocco to their haven, Sanibel Island. (She marveled at the fresh bread of Marrakesh for decades after visiting). Together, after raising Bill and Pam, Nancy and Pete knew they had still more love to give and fostered nearly 400 infants and children in Kansas. She formed deep bonds with these children, treasuring each call and visit all through the years as they grew up. Nancy found lifelong strength and hope through her faith in Jesus Christ. She was an independent spirit, living in the home she had created with Pete until the end and walking the good life with God, protected by His great faithfulness and going home ready and glad. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Hillcrest Covenant Church at 11:00am, visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 10am to 11am.
