Naomi Macey Troutt Tinsley, 97, formerly of Overland Park, passed away on July 6, 2012, in Oregon City, Oregon.
She was born on August 8, 1914, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Walter S. Troutt and Florence E. Cox Troutt. She married Ross W. Tinsley on December 17, 1935.
Her husband, her parents, five sisters, one brother, and one daughter-in-law preceded her in death. Left to cherish Naomi's memory are her six children: Jim (Jan) Tinsley, Indianapolis, Indiana, Mary (Ken) Jeffers, The Villages, Florida, Don Tinsley, Lake Waukomis, Missouri, LaVaughn (Dave) Lindsey, Olathe, Kansas, Janice (Ron) Senevey, Oregon City, Oregon, and Reece Tinsley, Cleveland, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, Sherry, Tracey, Leslie, Lisa, Kendrick, Suzi, Julie, Jennifer, Donald, Stephanie, Matt, Guin, Beth Ann, and Todd; 26 great grandchildren; three sisters; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Naomi was an amazing person who was admired and respected by all who knew her. She was valedictorian of her high school class as well as being a star athlete in basketball and track, which earned her a college scholarship. Naomi's love of learning continued throughout her life and she could easily converse about literature, history, current events, music, sports, and science. She had many interests, but was especially passionate about poetry, books, travel, and nature. Naomi enjoyed her many travels throughout the United States and abroad, yet she was especially happy when in her home surrounded by her books or in her yard tending to her many beautiful flowers.
Naomi worked in the Outpatient Clinic at the University of Kansas Medical Center for 30 years. As in everything she did, she excelled in her career, and was finalist for Outstanding Employee of the Year in 1976. She was a founding member of the Hillview Church of God in Kansas City, Kansas.
Naomi was an inspiration to her family and all who were privileged to know her and they will dearly miss her quiet, gentle spirit.
A private family memorial service was held on July 20, 2012, and Naomi was laid to rest next to Ross at Gott Cemetery in Miller County, Missouri.
Memorial contributions in Naomi's name can be made to Cross-Lines Community Outreach, 736 Shawnee Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66105.
