Nathaniel Flem Cheatham, Sr.

May 24, 1921 — December 31, 2014

Flem Cheatham, Sr., 93, of Shawnee, KS, our loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Covenant Place of Lenexa.

Flem was born May 24, 1921 in Lewisburg, TN to Gideon and Cofie Cheatham and spent most of his life in Shawnee. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of WWII serving as a Platoon Sergeant. A highlight in his later years was participating in an Honor Flight to Washington DC with fellow WWII Veterans. He was a manager for National Bellas Hess for 20 years and was a terminal manager for Yellow Freight Systems in KCMO for 15 years, retiring in 1986. He was an active member and former Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie and a grandson, Randy.

He is survived by two sons, N. Flem Cheatham, Jr., and his wife, Vesta, and William E. Cheatham and his wife, Karen; a daughter, Brenda Amos and her husband, Gregg; six grandchildren, Aaron Cheatham, Chris Cheatham, Ashley Harms, Megan Starek, Melissa Meythaler, and Parker Amos and 11 great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Covenant Place, and Crossroads Hospice; and the support of the First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 10 - 11 a.m., Monday at the Amos Family Funeral Home followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.

The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church of Shawnee or Crossroads Hospice, 11150 Thompson Ave., Lenexa, KS 66219.
