Niam Khamvongsa

Niam Khamvongsa passed away at the age of 77 years old on August 26, 2024 in Olathe, KS at Olathe Medical Center at 12:32PM.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vatsana Sithysane; his step-children: Mia (Ning) Hocker, Julye Sithysane, and David Suwanwisute; and his cousin Bouapha Khamvongsa.

Niam was born in the province of Attapeu, Laos on January 7, 1947. After some schooling at a young age, he focused on helping his family by working on their family farm. Later as a teenager, he would join the Lao Royal Army and contributed a couple years of service before immigrating to the USA in 1978. After a couple years of settling in his new home country, he will find work at Plastic Sales and Manufacturing Co in Kansas City, MO. He remained loyal to the company for 25+ years until his retirement in the year 2017. 

Niam was married to Vatsana Sithysane in March of 1994, they continued to happily live together in Kansas City, MO until his final day. 

Niam was an active member in The Lao-American Association of Kansas City, the K. C. Lao Association based in Independence, MO, the Laos Community Association based in Gardner, KS, and the Lao-Buddhist Association based in Olathe, KS.

Niam was most passionate about his garden. He loved trying to grow all the herbs and vegetables of his birth-country as much as he was able. He also loved spending time with friends and family. Whenever he was needed to provide support, he never hesitated to show up on any occasion that mattered the most. 

The family wishes to thank the wonderful people of Olathe Medical Center for putting in their best effort in prolonging the life of Niam Khamvongsa. We also want to thank the staff of DCI Dialysis Clinic and DaVita Northland Dialysis. Everyone has been so warm and welcoming towards Niam for these past couple years, thank you for providing such exceptional care. 

There will be a funeral service at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Amos Family Funeral Home.
