Nora Mary Maher

July 24, 1941 — January 2, 2011

Nora Mary Maher, 69, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away at 6:00 a.m., Sunday, January 2, 2011, at home after two years of treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and a Bone Marrow Transplant.

Nora was born July 24, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond Murphy and Frances Murphy. Nora was preceded in death by father, Raymond Murphy, mother, Frances Murphy, son, Michael Maher, brother, Tom Murphy, and brother, Michael Murphy. Surviving are husband, Robert J Maher of Shawnee, Kansas; daughters, Cheryl Maher of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Julie (Victor) Lukic of Carona, California; son, Daniel (Emma) Maher of Shawnee, Kansas; sisters, Pat (Richard) Cole of Waterloo, Iowa, Rae Freet of Waterloo, Iowa, and Coleen (Jome) Alcomendas of Vancouver, Washington; brother, John (Debbie) Murphy of Waterloo, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Nora (Joshua) Ancel, Tommy Maher, Bobby Maher, Victoria Lukie, and Jackson Lukie.

Nora was an artist and liked to work with acrylics and landscape.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aids at the University of Kansas Medical Center nurses station #42 and the Cancer Center and Bone Marrow Transplant Center for their kind and devoted care. Nora dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bone Marrow Transplant Center, 2500 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Westwood, Kansas 66205.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January, 4, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A prayer service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at the chapel entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.
