Norma was born on December 11, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of George and Norma Geiger. She eventually moved to Merriam, Kansas and attended Park College, then Kansas State University where she earned a B.S. in Dietetics & Institutional Management. She met her husband Charles Winn and married in 1945 in Washington State where Charles was stationed during the Korean War. That same year she earned her Master of Science degree in Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Kansas and joined the staff as an intern and instructor. Their first of three sons, Robert Charles, was born in Kansas City in 1951. Norma and Charles moved to Austin, Texas where she joined the staff at the University of Texas and served as chief dietician. In 1955 Norma and Charles welcomed their second and third sons, Richard and Thomas. The family migrated to Omaha, Nebraska in 1963 where Norma worked as a dietician at Bergan Mercy Hospital. In 1964 the family moved back to Merriam. Norma went on to become an associate professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center where she thrived until her retirement in 1988. She stayed at the Medical Center as a volunteer for many years after that and remained an active member in the Auxiliary.

Norma stayed very active following her departure from the volunteer service she provided. Her favorite activities included going to the gym, playing bridge, attending luncheons, sewing, traveling, cooking (no better apple pie in the world) and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her firstborn son Robert. Norma will always be remembered as a firm but unimaginably kind person. She was truly a unique individual and a model for generations to come.

She is survived by two sons, Richard of Farmington, New Mexico and Thomas (Patti) of Lawrence, Kansas, one grandson, Austin (Susie) of Austin, Texas, one granddaughter, Holly Winn, of Kansas City, Mo., three great grandsons, Nikolas of Olathe, Kansas, Aidan of Lenexa, Kansas and Allen of Savannah, Georgia.
