Norma Lee Winters of Lake Quivira passed away on April 10, 2025. She was born April 29, 1926 to Hazel (Dial) Loske and John F. Loske in Kansas City, KS. She attended Mark Twain grade school, Wyandotte High School and Junior College in KCK before finishing her degree at the University of Kansas. While attending KU, she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and was elected an honorary member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Psi.
Following graduation, she married her college sweetheart, George E. Winters, Jr. on July 23, 1949. She worked hard, teaching first and third grade in KCK and Lawrence while George completed his college degrees.
After returning to KCK, she became active in many civic and social organizations including: President of Junior League of Wyandotte & Johnson Counties, executive positions on the boards of the Salvation Army, Wyandotte Mental Health, the Kansas City Ballet Guild & Conservative Capitalists. She was also a member of the Chancellor's Club, Lake Quivira Garden Club and the Kansas City Rose Society.
Norma Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband & best friend, George (passed 2009), daughter Kathleen Steineger, her sister Elaine Street, and many other extended family members. She is survived by her beloved son, George E. Winters III, granddaughter Kisha Steineger, sister-in-law Dee Winters and numerous nieces and nephews. Norma Lee and her family would like to thank her Benefits of Home team, Cedanor, Cheryl, Jenny, Linda, Ruth and Felisha for their friendship and ability to make her favorite cocktail, a snort! She passes warm wishes to her hair dressers, Kelsey, and most of all to her dear friend and helper, Necole Boolin.
Norma Lee and George loved parties and always wanted to attend their own funerals. In 2008, the couple hosted an appreciation party so that they could thank all of their friends and family who had helped make their lives so wonderful. Norma Lee asks that you please say a prayer for her and remember a happy time that you shared. If you would like to make a donation in her honor, she asks that you do so to the charity of your choice.
Aloha my friends,
NLW
