Olive Weber was born in Hamilton County to Marion Gilbert (Pete) Nail and May (ne Corrow) Nail on July 30, 1932. She was a graduate of Blairsburg High School and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She was employed at Iowa Methodist, Mary Greeley Hospital, and worked long term care at Riverside Manor in Ames toward the end of her working life.
Olive married Darrel, the love of her life, on March 24, 1952 after they met as students at a Halloween party. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister Mary Ellen Shaw of Independence, Iowa; two stepbrothers Charlie Welcher, Bill Welcher, and one stepsister Nellie Welcher. Olive is survived by two sons, Eric (Carol) of Ames, Iowa and Bruce (Kathy) of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren, Clara Blauwiekel, Bill Weber, Joe Weber, and Kevin Weber; great-grandchildren Amanda Weber, Theo and Sam Blauwiekel.
Olive and Darrel lived in Ames, Iowa for most of their married life and as their children grew up. In retirement they enjoyed being “snowbirds” for 20 years in Casa Grande, Arizona. The new friends they made in Arizona brought joy to their later years.
Olive loved sewing, knitting, counter cross stitch, and beading. Early in her marriage she made all of her own clothes and was extremely frugal. With grandchildren, she again became busy sewing clothing for her granddaughter and knitting sweaters for grandsons and family members.
After Darrel’s passing in December, 2017, Olive moved to Shawnee, Kansas to be closer to son Bruce and her grandchildren. She lived in Brookdale Rosehill Assisted Living until Covid and other issues necessitated a move for more nursing care at Brookdale. The restrictions of covid brought about a decline in her health. She was still able to enjoy sidecar rides at the end of her life.
