Ona Jean Young

Ona J. Young, 68, of Merriam, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at her home.

Ona was born, March 13, 1941 in Iola, Kansas. Ona graduated from Humboldt High School in 1958. After high school she went on to attend classes at Iola Community College. Ona was an avid camper, and was a member of the Family Camper's and RVer's Association. On June 9, 1959 she married Carl Young in Miami, Oklahoma. They were marred almost 50 years.

Ona is survived by her loving husband Carl, a son Keith Young, also of Merriam two daughters, Lisa M. Hardwick, and husband Mike, Gardner, Kansas; Pamela J. Young, and husband Ferass Al-Najar, Merriam, Kansas; two granddaughters, Kayla Ann and Brooke Renee Hardwick, both of Gardner, Kansas; a grandson Skylar N. Najar-Young. Merriam, Kansas. A brother, Gary Lassman, Iola, Kansas; three brother's in law, Robert E. Young, Aurora, Missouri, James L. Young, Olathe, Kansas, and John R. Young, Independence, Missouri and six sisters in law also survive her. Ona is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister in law. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, she might be gone but will not be forgotten.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Associations.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Grace Lutheran Church, 117 E. Miller Rd., Iola, Kansas 66749. The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery, Neosho Falls, Kansas.
