Opal "Joan" Pike, 74, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013, at her home. Joan was born March 13, 1938, in Tuscumbia, Missouri, to Norman and Opal Barron. She was married to Richard Landreth in 1952, and they had two children, DyAnn and Dick. Richard passed away in 1959. A year and a half later, she married Charles "Charley" H. Pike and they had a son, Chuck. Joan and Charley became foster parents in 1976 to 2008. They loved and took care of many wonderful children. This is how they met and fell in love, with the two great kids, they adopted, Rick and Jordyn.
Joan and Charley owned Fluffy Fresh Donut Shop since 1961. They owned and operated the Donut Shop in Shawnee for 10 years before moving the Donut Shop to 103rd and State Line in Leawood, Kansas.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Bonnie Pittman and Juanita Ladd.
She is survived by her husband, Charley and Rick and Jordyn of the home; daughter, DyAnn and husband Dennis Bosley; son, Dick and wife Brenda Landreth all of Shawnee; son Dr. Charles "Chuck" and Dr. Amy Pike of Eldon, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Lindsey, Brett, Rachelle, Cody, Travis, Taylor, Chalie, Cory, Carissa, Amanda, MacKenzie, and Abigail; six great grandkids, Brady, Deanna, Cayden, Cirstyn, Lex and Dallas. Joan is also survived by four sisters, Billie Hilt, Orpha Yeager, Zella Phelps and Sue Gardner, two brothers, Dennis Barron and Kenny Barron and many nieces and nephews.
Joan loved her kids, being a hair stylist, gardening, decorating cakes, ceramics, making dolls and going to their lake house on the Lake of the Ozarks, on weekends. Most of all, she loved Charley. They were married for 51 years.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to National Parkinson Foundation Heartland or the ASPCA.
