Opal M. (Vrana) Wylie died on May 2, 2022, in Kansas City. She was 98 years old.
Opal was born in Oklahoma City on Feb. 15, 1924. She was the only child of Bill and Annie B. Vrana. Her half-sister, Jewel (Bailey) Vrana, preceded her.
Opal graduated from Central High School in 1942. She attended the University of Oklahoma in 1942 and also went to secretarial school.
Opal inspected compasses for warplanes at Tinker Field Air Force Base in Oklahoma City during World War II. She served as a legal secretary for Ames, Daugherty, Bynum & Black in Oklahoma City.
Opal married Frank Wylie on Feb. 10, 1957, in Oklahoma City. They moved to Tulsa and had three children: Ann, Lynn and Bill Wylie. The family moved to Houston in 1966 and settled in Shawnee in 1969.
Opal worked as a bookkeeper in Frank’s CPA firm, Frank G. Wylie, CPA, until 1987. She continued serving bookkeeping clients until 2014. She retired at 90 years of age.
Opal was a Sunday school teacher at Merriam Christian Church, president of Almost Angels Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Collector’s Club and an avid gardener.
Opal is survived by her children, Ann Wylie of Kansas City, Lynn Wylie of Kansas City, and Bill Wylie, of Reno; her daughter-in-law, Yuko Kawase Wylie, and her granddaughter, Laura Wylie, of Reno.
Opal’s family thanks the angels who cared for her at Garden Terrace at Overland Park and at Ascend Hospice.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. May 7 at Amos Family Funeral Home.
