Otis Megee was born on Dec.22,1940 in Little Chief, Oklahoma in the heart of Osage County. Otis was the fifth child of seven born to George W and Grayce Holcomb Megee. He passed from this life into the arms of his LORD and SAVIOR on Sept. 29, 2016. His first 6 years he attended schools in Osage County. His next 5 years he attended school in Glenco, Oklahoma. His final year of high school was in 1958-59 in Aztec, New Mexico.
He attended Joplin Junior College on a basketball and football scholarship from 1959-1961. While at Joplin Junior College he met the love of his life Judith Kay Williamson who he married on January 27, 1962 at South Joplin Christian Church. They made their home in Joplin while Otis finished his BSED from 1961-63 at Kansas State College of Pittsburg, Kansas with a Major in Physical Education and a Minor in Social Studies.
He taught and coached the next 4 years in Aztec and Farmington, New Mexico. On November 28,1965 Otis and Judie were blessed with their first child Misty Lynn Megee. In 1967, Otis accepted a teaching and coaching position at Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth., Kansas. It was here that Judie drove back and forth to University of Kansas to finish her degree in Physical Education graduating in 1969. On April 30, 1977 a second daughter, Natalie Kay Megee was born. On Oct. 26, 1981 a son, Matthew Dane Megee was born.
In June of 1969 Otis took a job as an Allstate Insurance Agent and Agency owner until January 1, 2008 when he sold his business and retired to travel, do volunteer work and help raise grandchildren.
During his spare time. Otis found time to officiate high school football and basketball games with the Leavenworth Official Association. Otis also coached a girls basketball and boys basketball team Great American Basketball League for a total of 6 years each.
Otis served as an Deacon and Elder as well as an Adult Sunday school teacher for many years at Hillcrest Christian Church.
Otis was an avid Quail and Pheasant hunter spending some 30 to 40 years going to North Central and Western Kansas during the seasons. Otis also loved to fish and was quite good at it.
He is survived by his wife, Judie; children, Misty Culp, Natalie Lund, Matthew Megee; along with 6 grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Hillcrest Christian Church in Overland Park, KS. Funeral service is Monday at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Christian Church. Graveside service to follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, MO.
