Patricia L. Mcnaughton

Patricia McNaughton, 83, of De Soto, KS, was born and raised in south St. Louis, MO.  She attended Bayless High School and graduated in 1957.  Her first job was at Campbell 66 Truck Line where she was an office worker and Teamster.  It was there she met Jim McNaughton, her boss at the time.  They made the perfect couple and later married, both their second marriage. Very much in love, they were determined to improve their life.  They moved to the Kansas City area in 1976 and applied at Kansas City Kansas Community College.  After graduation, they both applied at KU in 1978.  Her interests then took her to Nursing School at KU and later graduated in 1981.  Continuing on, she applied for her master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner.  To feed her thirst for learning and while earning accolades being voted tops in her nursing school, she was chosen to apply for MENSA and became a member.

Patty was a fierce protecter of animal rights and volunteered to work for them.  She loved KU Basketball and rarely missed a game at Allen Field House.  As she aged, she suffered a debilitating stroke.  She sadly passed on June 12, 2023.  Still learning about her interest of birds from her beloved porch where she and Jim loved to sit and watch hummingbirds.

She is survived by her husband, Jim McNaughton; niece, Cristina Polys and cousin, Judy Polys.  Survivors also include her two stepsons, Mike and Pat McNaughton and 6 grandchildren, Kevin, Jaxson, Kayla, Jeremy, Ben and Emma and great-grandchild, Eli.  Patty will be remembered for her veracity and strength.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 17th at 2:00 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.  Memorial donations in Patty's name may be made to the Lawrence Humane Society.
